Our guide about controlling garage doors shows which parameters to set to allow it to mimic a momentary switch. You basically set the auto-off timer to around 1 or 2 seconds. This is shown in http://www.vesternet.com/resources/ap...
Hope this helps.

Hi Mark, thanks - it was your handy guide that got me to purchase this item in the first place! However it's the actual means to set the parameters I'm worrying about. Is the only way really to spend yet another ã50 on something like a z-stick? Thanks!

Ah, OK - I understand. We don't use SmartThings so can't say what the process is to change parameters. Normally, in the device settings menu you will be able to add or edit particular device parameters, this allows you to fully configure the device. This is how it works in VERA, Zipato, Indigo and Fibaro controllers which are the ones we've used or know about. For ST I am not sure how you do this, so probably best to ask ST support or their forum. It may mean that a specific Device Handler is required in order for ST to allow you to make changes to the device.
You also mentioned needing a Z-Stick - this would not work, so that would not be an option. A Z-Wave device can only belong to one Z-Wave network at a time - yours is in the ST network. To make changes to it using the Z-Stick you would included it into the Z-Stick's network. But you would then delete it from there to add it back to the ST network - and all changes would be lost as it would be reset. The configuration changes have to be done from within ST.
Hope this makes sense.

Ah got it! Yes that makes complete sense, thank you. I understand now (wasn't 100% sure of the function of the z-stick). SmartThings has official support for some devices but I guess this isn't one of them. I think I have some coding fun in my near future :)

I'd be interested to know how you get on as there is a common request for garage door control amongst ST users.
